BURLINGTON, NC (January 5, 2015) – A new law firm focusing on the practice of family law opened in Burlington on January 2, 2015. Law partners Wade Harrison and Hillary Whitaker are proud to announce their new firm, Harrison Whitaker, PLLC, located at 3132 Commerce Place Suite, Burlington at the corner of Forestdale Drive and Commerce Place just off South Church Street.

“Hillary and I have worked together for almost 20 years, serving our clients in all areas of family law.” Harrison said. “Every family is unique, and every relationship is unique. We strive to understand the values and needs of each client. We work as a team with our clients and other professionals to obtain our clients most important objectives in the most practical way. This result oriented approach to helping our clients is not only important to us as lawyers; it is the driving force behind our new practice.”

Equitable distribution, child custody, and spousal support, litigation and negotiation; separation agreements, absolute divorces, adoptions and premarital agreements are a few of the services that the firm will offer, according to Whitaker. “We are seeing many opportunities to help our clients through alternative dispute resolution, as well,” she said. “As NC Family Financial Certified Mediators, we can assist clients by working through many of the challenging details of separation and divorce without the difficulties and costs of litigating a case in court.”

Harrison and Whitaker are both North Carolina Board Certified Specialists in family law. “We are the only two Board Certified Specialists in family law in Burlington,” Harrison noted. Harrison is also a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and currently serves on its Board of Governors.

Both Harrison and Whitaker have served many local and regional non-profit associations and organizations in Alamance County and beyond. Harrison is a past campaign chair for the United Way, past president of the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section, past president of the Alamance County Bar Association and current member of the Alamance Community College Foundation board. He has served as a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, and for 14 years he was Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 9 at Blessed Sacrament church. Whitaker, a native of Naples, Fla., has served on the boards of the NC Girl Scouts Triad Council, Alamance County Bar Association, and the Alamance Arts Council. She is also actively involved with the Family Law section of the North Carolina Bar Association.

Harrison completed his undergraduate studies and earned his Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Whitaker received her undergraduate degree at Davidson College and is a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law.
